The report Health effects of climate change. An update of the current risks of climate change for health, published by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment explores the health effects of climate change in the Netherlands based on research conducted by RIVM over the past 30 years (1991–2020). It highlights the growing health challenges posed by rising temperatures, including increased mortality during heatwaves, respiratory issues due to pollen and ozone, higher skin cancer risks from UV radiation, and the spread of infectious diseases like Legionnaires' and Lyme disease. The report also addresses mental health impacts caused by climate stress and extreme weather. Developed to support the update of the National Climate Adaptation Strategy (NAS), this study underscores the urgent need for further research to inform effective health-protection policies in a changing climate.
