Description

The publication, firstly issued in December 2018 and updated in October 2019,  provides preliminary conclusions of the assessment of risks associated to climate and environmental changes in the Mediterranean Region. It synthetizes knowledge across disciplines to provide a better understanding of the combined risks posed by the recent accelerated climate change and changes in land use, increasing pollution and declining biodiversity.

The document illustrates climate change facts in the Mediterranean (air and sea temperature, precipitation, sea level) and impacts of climate and environmental changes on water resources, food resources, ecosystems (land, marine, coastal, freshwater), human health and human security.

This assessment has been undertaken by the network of Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) supported by the Union for the Mediterranean and Pan Bleu (UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Center). The booklet is also a part of a contribution of MedECC to the 2019 Report on the State of the Environment and Development in the Mediterranean (SoED 2019), that will present a comprehensive and updated assessment of the status and main sustainability issues related to environment and development in the Mediterranean region.
