RAINMAN-Toolbox

The RAINMAN-Toolbox was developed within the project RAINMAN, part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The aim of this tool is to support local and regional authorities and stakeholders in Central Europe in dealing with heavy rain risks. Extreme rainfalls pose major challenges in Europe and are expected to increase in intensity and frequency under climate change. By providing practice-oriented tools and methods to address heavy rain risks, the RAINMAN-Toolbox helps administrations not only to tackle current threats but also to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change. 

In particular, the toolbox addresses heavy rain risks from three angles:

• Assessment and mapping of potential heavy rain hazards and risks: the tool explains the different elements and steps for local authorities to pinpoint where rainwater accumulates and where it can pose risks to people, infrastructure and property.
• Risk reduction measures: RAINMAN helps local and regional administrations to find, select and implement suitable risk reduction measures. In particular, a catalogue of 100 risk reduction measures is provided. 
• Risk communication: the tool helps to define which information on hazards, risks and actions should be conveyed to different target groups.
