The Native Tree Area Scheme (NTAS) offers two distinct interventions to support the establishment of native forests.
- NTA 1 – Creation of Small Native Forests supports the planting of new native woodlands on farmed land, contributing to Ireland’s environmental goals, particularly in relation to climate change mitigation and biodiversity enhancement.
- NTA 2 – Creation of Native Forests for Water Protection focuses on establishing native forests and undisturbed water setbacks that deliver essential ecosystem services. These forests help protect and enhance water quality and aquatic ecosystems, while also offering broader biodiversity benefits. By creating permanent, semi-natural landscape features along watercourses, NTA 2 contributes to reconnecting fragmented native woodlands, strengthening ecological corridors and supporting long-term habitat restoration.
