Objective of the funding programme

The Environment Programme supports sustainable development and reaffirms the goal of preserving, protecting, and improving the quality of the environment. It contributes to a greener, low-carbon, and sustainable Europe with a net-zero carbon economy by promoting a clean and fair energy transition, green and blue investments, the circular economy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, risk prevention and management, and sustainable urban mobility.

In 2025, the programme is updated to align more closely with Bulgaria’s National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, increasing the share of funding for nature-based solutions, urban resilience, and flood risk management. Green infrastructure and ecosystem restoration are now prioritised under adaptation measures.
