Following up on a 2021 2021 European Court of Auditors report, also in collaboration with FOREST EUROPE, a new ensemble of 8 case studies and 3 adaptation options on adaptation in the Forestry sector has been published on Climate-ADAPT.

Case studies showcase:

• Reforestation initiatives in large scale areas hit by drought and pest outbreak in Germany (Decision support for forest owners in Hesse; Large scale forestry restoration in North Rhine Westphalia)
• Strategies for preventing and managing wildfires by reusing water in Spain (Fire resilience in Riba-Roja de Túria) and by implementing prescribed burns and managed grazing in Portugal (An integrated approach to make forests resilient to climate change, Viseu Dão Lafões)
• Sustainable management of forests by favouring diverse tree species and ages in Spain (Sustainable forestry in the province of Soria) and Belgium (Sustainable forestry in a peri-urban beech forest)
• Collaborative forms of governance in Italy (A community of practice for sustainably manage forests surrounding the Occhito Lake) and national policy adjustments for improving national preparedness to wildfires in Sweden (Managing the increasing risk of wildfires in a changing climate, Sweden). This is an upgrade made by the Swedish Meteorological Institute (SMHI) of a case study accessible through the national platform Klimatanpassing.se.
  

The new adaptation options provide information about strategies to prevent, manage and recover forests from climate change impacts.
