Climate change abroad also affects the national economies
17 Dec 2018The German Environment Agency has completed a first-ever study of the climate risks for international trade relations. The study claims that the risks of climate change occurring abroad affect Germany's economy to at least the same extent as it does foreign economies. Six per cent (55 billion euros) of Germany’s imports and four per cent of its exports are tied to twelve countries or regions which are considered particularly vulnerable to climate change.
Quinoa handle dry conditions and shifting temperatures
17 Dec 2018The South American crop quinoa is suited to dry conditions and with a new cultivated variety, it can also be grown in Sweden. It is being tested by farmers in the southern part of Sweden, where longer periods of drought and higher temperatures await in a changed climate.
Modern Greenland ice sheet melt unprecedented since age of industrialisation
11 Dec 2018Current melting at the surface of the Greenland ice sheet is unprecedented for at least the last three-and-a-half centuries. That is what a group of climate researchers from the US, Belgium and the Netherlands report in the journal Nature, based on melt records from three ice cores drilled in central west Greenland.

Climate change adaptation of major infrastructure projects
03 Dec 2018DG REGIO commissioned a stock-taking of available resources to assist the development of climate resilient infrastructure covering the transport, urban development, energy, water and waste sectors, following seven study criteria: data availability, guidance, methodologies, tools, design standards, system and legal framework, and institutional capacity. The study’s final report includes a general and a country-specific part with project examples for each Member State.

WHO report published on public health and climate change adaptation policies in the EU
29 Nov 2018The WHO Regional Office for Europe and the European Commission have developed a project to analyse health policies to address adaptation to climate change in EU countries and to compile a selection of good practice case studies. This report includes the findings and a review of past trends and future projections of selected weather- and climate-related hazards, including their health impacts.
European Commission calls for a climate neutral Europe by 2050
28 Nov 2018The EC adopted a strategic long-term vision for a climate neutral economy by 2050: 'A Clean Planet for all'. The strategy shows how Europe can lead the way to climate neutrality by investing into realistic technological solutions, empowering citizens, and aligning action in key areas such as industrial policy, finance, or research.
