Depression, exacerbated by global crises such as pandemics, wars, societal trauma and climate change, remains a major global health challenge, disproportionately affecting young people and vulnerable groups ¹. In alignment with the European Commission’s 2024‑2029 mental‑health priorities ¹, Decoding Depression: Exploring the Environome Across Life Course builds on the JRC‑led Decoding Depression report and survey ² and brings together global expertise and lived experience within a transdisciplinary framework. The work examines how personal, social, natural, built and digital environments interact across the life course to shape depression risk and resilience, explicitly addressing youth and all life‑course vulnerabilities, biological and neuro‑diversity susceptibilities, and other demographic factors.
