The implementation of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda on Health and Climate Change, launched last June 2025, continues! The Horizon Europe Cluster 1 (Health) Work Programme 2026-27 provides €168 million in research and innovation funding for climate and health. The 2026 topics, which closed for submission on 16 April, aim to:
- Better understand and anticipate the effects of climate change on health.
- Build more climate resilient and carbon neutral people and health systems.
- Provide support for the establishment of a secretariat for a multilateral initiative between global climate and health research funders.
In 2027, the topics, which will open for submission on 10 February 2027, will be geared towards:
- Better integrating climate exposures in exposome research and elucidating exposomics changes in response to climate change.
- Developing innovative technologies to help with health adaptation to climate change.
These objectives are in line with the flagship action on climate change and health under the Strategy for European Life Sciences, the implementation of which is ongoing, and which committed more than €170 million to the SRIA’s implementation. Furthermore, the Horizon Europe Climate-Health Cluster has recently delivered its new policy brief on climate change and health inequalities, titled ‘Uneven Ground: Health inequalities in a changing climate’. The Climate-Health Cluster is actively involved in the work of the European Climate and Health Observatory.”
