Under the framework of the global IOM umbrella initiative “Climate Mobility for National Adaptation Plans (NAPs)”, several initiatives took place within the past months.

The IOM Country Office with Coordinating Functions for Mediterranean (COMED) organized a webinar to present the Warsaw International Mechanism Loss and Damage Executive Committee of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC, 2024) “Technical guide on integrating human mobility into national climate change planning processes” to Italian Municipalities engaged in climate change response and in adaptation efforts. Moreover, it raised awareness of the Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (MECR) nexus during a public event aimed at policy makers, practitioners, and the public.

On 1 July 2025, the IOM Global Office in Brussels and IOM's Regional Office in Vienna briefed the lead of the forthcoming European climate resilience and risk management strategy at the European Commissions’ General Directorate for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) on IOM's work on National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). IOM highlighted the work being done in more than 30 countries on integration migration into NAPs, including on sectoral aspects such as migrant health, with a view to inspire similar action in the EU and reflect the approach in the planned European Climate Resilience and Risk Management Strategy to be published in 2026.
