The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, under EU Funding programme Horizon Europe, supports regions and communities in preparing for increasing climate risks and strengthening resilience by 2030. It mobilises research findings, tools and a community of 333 signatories across Europe to help local authorities understand climate risks, develop adaptation pathways and implement practical solutions.

Key messages

Why the Mission on Adaptation to Climate change matters for climate change adaptation

Climate change impacts are already affecting European regions and communities, with increasing risks to people, ecosystems and infrastructure. Effective adaptation requires coordinated action, robust knowledge and practical implementation at local level. The Mission helps bridge the gap between understanding risks and delivering solutions by supporting regions in planning, financing and implementing adaptation measures.

By fostering collaboration across countries and governance levels, it accelerates the uptake of proven approaches, reduces vulnerabilities and strengthens long-term resilience, ensuring that communities are better prepared for current and future climate challenges. The Mission complements, and does not replace, national adaptation policies by supporting implementation, knowledge-sharing and cooperation across levels of governance.
