Local Government Powers for Disaster Risk Reduction
Description:
This report aims to help DRR practitioners in both developing and industrialised countries to understand the current situation and compare how well their provinces, districts, cities, municipalities, and townships are doing in terms of becoming more resilient in the face of mounting impacts of disasters and climate change. Based on a stocktaking research of 151 Making Cities Resilient Campaign collaborating partners and Campaign cities across the world, it attempts to develop some form of benchmarks with respect to Ten Essentials promoted by the Making Cities Resilient Campaign. Examples from actual cases are provided showing how some local governments have deal with disaster risk reduction to encourage exchanges and mutual learning.
