Climate change and enhanced sea level rise may seriously impact the structure, functions and characteristic biodiversity of the Wadden Sea ecosystem, as well as the safety of the inhabitants in the region. Addressing these impacts as a cross cutting theme is a major challenge for the Trilateral Cooperation for the protection of the Wadden Sea, joining Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. The Guiding Principle of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation is to “achieve, as far as possible, a natural and sustainable ecosystem in which natural processes proceed in an undisturbed way”.
A Wadden Sea Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform was developed in the framework of the EU Interreg project “Building with nature”; it is hosted and publicly available under the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) website. The information stored in the platform was collected by the Task Group Climate (TG-C) of the Trilateral Cooperation for the Wadden Sea.
The Platform is a searchable database, storing information about policies, projects, and reports supporting the evidence base for best practices with Building with Nature approach for Climate change adaptation.
Information can be searched by free text, selecting the time period, the implementation area (e.g. best practice, policy and management, monitoring and assessment), the documentation available (e.g. website, data report, policy report, map), the geographical area of interest (e.g. Netherland, Germany, Wadden Sea, North Sea). A descriptive sheet for each selected item can be visualized and a link for more detailed information is provided.
