Description

BASt has developed a roadmap for the adaptation to climate change for road infrastructures. The main aim of the roadmap is to make all main connections "climate-proof" by 2030 through practical implementation of adaptation measures, as well as appropriate revision of technical regulations. The first milestone on the way to an adapted and resilient road infrastructure is the BASt-initiated research programme AdSVIS (Climate Change Adaptation of Road Infrastructure or Adaptation der Straßenverkehrsinfrastruktur an den Klimawandel).

Until the end of 2014, an assessment was made of the vulnerability of individual road infrastructure elements as well as of climate impacts on maintenance practices, and adaptation options were developed and tested in the framework of various AdSVIS subprojects, including the following ones:

Subproject 1. Risk analysis of transit axis (RIVA).

Subproject 2. Climate change and road maintenance.

Subproject 3. Assessment of road drainage systems.

Subproject 4. Landslide risk assessment and hazard mapping.

Subproject 5. Standardised asphalat pavements under changed temperature boundary conditions.

Subproject 6. Projected climate change and pavement design.

Subproject 7. Comparison of meteorological parameters using climate projection raster data.

Subproject 8. Impact models and design parameters for bridges and tunnels.

Subproject 9. Networking and communication in AdSVIS projects.

The outcomes of AdSVIS are being further developed by the BMVI Network of Experts. (http://www.bmvi-expertennetzwerk.de/EN).
