The overall aim of the LIFE UrbanProof project is to increase the resilience of municipalities to climate change equipping them with a powerful tool for supporting better informed decision making on climate change adaptation planning. The project implementation includes the following core actions:
- simulation of current climate and projection of future changes in climate;
- climate change impact and adaptation assessment;
- development of the UrbanProof toolkit for supporting better informed decision making;
- implementation of selected green, blue and soft adaptation measures at the project municipalities;
- development of local climate change adaptation strategies for the project municipalities.
The URBANPROOF toolkit consists of 5 interdependent modules/stages which altogether comprise the adaptation process. In specific, the user is guided though the different stages of the toolkit in order to:
- be informed of the expected changes in climate to the urban environment;
- explore through interactive maps and figures the climate change impacts on the urban environment and gain insight into the individual parameters (physical, structural & socio-economic) contributing to the creation of these impacts;
- explore the available adaptation options and their evaluation or provide his/her own evaluation;
- develop an adaptation strategy/climate action plan for a municipality;
- investigate the effect of adaptation interventions in increasing climate change resilience.
2807 Municipalities in Italy |
129 Municipalities in Greece |
62 Municipalities in Cyprus |
It is highlighted that the UrbanProof toolkit may be used for conducting an impact and adaptation assessment for every urban municipality of Italy, Greece and Cyprus. The UrbanProof municipalities include all Local Administrative Units level 2 (LAU2) which are classified as: Cities (densely populated areas) and Towns & suburbs (intermediate density areas).
The user manual, demonstration video and other supportive material on the toolkit may be found under the Section “Useful material” of the website main menu.
