The URBiNAT project focuses on the regeneration and integration of deprived social housing districts and promotes inclusive and innovative nature in cities. The Healthy Corridor concept takes nature based solutions (NBS) further than just adapting to climate change and improving the quality of living environments. A healthy corridor is also a co-created social and cultural infrastructure that promotes the well-being of the community and impacts positively on health.
The project has three main objectives:
- to promote social cohesion locally through living labs and engagement of citizens and stakeholders
- to achieve new models of urban regeneration through the creation of innovative public space
- to disseminate the knowledge produced and demonstrated in the city labs
The URBiNAT solutions are tested in 7 European cities: Porto, Sofia and Nantes act as 'frontrunners', while Siena, Nova Gorica, Brussels and Høje-Taastrup are 'followers' replicating and adapting the NBS's tested in front runner cities to their own urban contexts.
Recently, a Handbook on workflow and standard quality procedures has been published.
