Boosting the implementation of adaptation policy across Greece (LIFE-IP AdaptInGR)

The integrated project LIFE-IP AdaptInGR - Boosting the implementation of adaptation policy across Greece is a key project for supporting Greece in adapting to climate change. The overall goal of the project is to catalyse the implementation of the Greek National Adaptation Strategy and the 13 Regional Adaptation Action Plans during the current (1^st) adaptation policy cycle (2016-2025) and to prepare the ground for passing to the 2^nd one (2026+), through appropriate actions at national, regional and local level.

More specifically, the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR project seeks to:

• build the capacity of public authorities mandated to plan and deliver adaptation actions and policies;
• create an effective mechanism to monitor, evaluate and update adaptation actions and policies at the national and regional level;
• implement pilot scale adaptation projects at three Regions and five Municipalities of the country, focusing on five priority adaptation sectors (i.e. flood risk management, coastal zone management, forest fire protection in drought-prone areas, sustainable water management, land-use planning and regeneration);
• raise public and stakeholders’ awareness of climate change adaptation;
• mobilise complementary funds to implement adaptation policies;
• disseminate examples of good practices across Greece, Eastern Mediterranean and the European Union;
• frame the next adaptation policy cycle (2026+) through evidenced-based evaluation and review of the Greek National Adaptation Strategy and the 13 Regional Adaptation Action Plans.
