Ready Together (Ready Together)

The Caribbean is one of the regions most exposed to the risks of seismic, volcanic and meteorological disasters and climate change. The 6th IPCC report foresees that small islands in the Caribbean sea will face more intense but generally fewer hurricanes. In the Caribbean, a decrease in rainfall is expected in the coming decades as well as a warming climate which will result in severe droughts.

The project builds on an integrated approach to crisis preparedness in order to effectively address the essential needs of Caribbean populations exposed to natural hazards and to the effects of climate change. Regional cooperation, through enhanced coordination, pooling of resources and collective promotion of risk culture is essential to address the major challenges of natural hazards and climate change in the Caribbean.

The overall objective of the project aims at strengthening the preparedness and response capacities of Caribbean populations facing the major risks and consequences of climate change. The three main axis include:

Axis 1: Strengthening regional disaster coordination and management mechanisms through the promotion of legislative and legal frameworks for risk reduction and the deployment of emergency humanitarian operations between Caribbean territories in the event of crises.

Axis 2: Increasing the preparedness and resilience of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs with deployment of a free Red Cross mobile phone app to assist entrepreneurs in the development of their business continuity plan in the event of a disaster.

Axis 3: Raising awareness of risk culture and adaptation to climate change through the creation of an annual regional awareness-raising event and conducting advocacy activities at the regional level.
