The LIFE-IP URBAN KLIMA 2050 project aims to contribute to the full implementation of the regional KLIMA 2050 Strategy in Basque Country in Spain.
The project will support finalization of the current Action Plan (2015-2020) and the definition of the next Action Plans under the KLIMA 2050 Strategy. The integration of the KLIMA 2050 Strategy into territorial and sectoral planning activities will be promoted and climate change policy mainstreamed into sectoral policies such as health, water and energy. A series of actions in urban/peri-urban, river basin, and coastal pilot areas will be implemented. The actions aim to explore the synergies between urban and rural measures, such as nature-based solutions and sustainable mobility, while taking advantage of the river basin approach to ensure the continuity of solutions. Climate change governance at all administrative scales will be improved and the impacts of the project will be multiplied by raising awareness, organizing training, and disseminating the results.
Among the expected results of the project are:
- Establishment of guidelines for planning
- Implementation of an environmental monitoring system and a tool to monitor the incorporation of integrated health and climate change adaptation considerations into municipal urban planning
- Local intervention pilots
- Commitment and empowerment of communities
- Empowerment of administration as a driver for change
- Creation of structures for climate change governance
