The Öresund Region, which encompasses a population of 3.8 million across Southern Sweden and Eastern Denmark, aims to be a regional ”powerhouse” in Europe for sustainability, innovation and clean-tech. This encompasses working with adaptation and mitigation, and enhancing resilience, in response to climate change and sustainability challenges. Academic institutions, local governments, regional authorities and clean-tech businesses in the region are already actively working towards sustainable urban transformations. A number of municipalities in the Öresund Region are engaged in developing and implementing ambitious strategies and objectives when it comes to sustainable urban development. To realize and sustain this development, 10 actors in the region have created an experimental and case-oriented project, Urban Transition Öresund. The project is a cross-border cooperation between Swedish and Danish partners (academic institutions and local governments) in the Öresund Region. Urban Transition Öresund is developing cross-border methods and tools for sustainable urban development within the three themes; sustainable planning processes, guidelines for sustainable construction and sustainable finance both when it comes to new urban areas and to renovations in built up areas. The project will also give suggestions on how new forms of cooperation can promote the transition into a more sustainable urban development.
