IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land

The IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land (SRCCL) explores how the way we use our land contributes to climate change and how climate change affects our land. It provides a detailed assessment of latest scientific knowledge about greenhouse gas fluxes in land-based ecosystems, land use and sustainable land management in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation, desertification, land degradation and food security. Interlinkages among those issues as well as synergies, trade-offs and integrated response options are discussed in the report. According to the report, climate change not only exacerbates the rate and magnitude of well-acknowledged on-going land degradation and desertification processes, but it also introduces novel degradation pathways in natural and semi-natural ecosystems, further affecting food security.

The SRCCL was prepared under the joint scientific leadership of Working Groups I, II, III and the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories of the IPCC, and supported by the WG III Technical Support Unit.
