Progress and Challenges in the Urban Governance of Climate Change - Results of a Global Survey

Description

A survey was conducted among over 700 communities that are members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. This survey explored the state of adaptation and mitigation planning globally, the challenges cities are facing, and the way that networks connecting multiple different players (municipal, community-based, and business) influence how climate policies are designed and implemented. The survey results show both the evolution of urban responses to climate change and the significant challenges that cities still have before them. Cities are pursuing climate change planning in an integrated fashion and mainstreaming it across local government agencies. They are conducting their planning in a collaborative manner, enabled by strong leadership and support from local government networks.
