Draft guidelines for institutional strengthening in synergies between CCA and DRR
22 Oct 2018The PLACARD work provides guidance on how institutions working on climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR), can take advantage of synergies between their networks, their capacities and ensure coherence in order to reduce the impacts of extreme events in the light of a changing climate. This work will be further extended during 2019.
New insights in Germany on drought and heat vulnerability

Establishment of Climate Action Regional Offices in Ireland
01 Oct 2018The Irish Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment has made 10 million Euro available over 5 years to establish four Climate Action Regional Offices (CAROs). The establishment of the offices is a key action under Ireland's National Adaptation Framework and National Mitigation Plan and will have an important role in coordinating climate action at local government level in Ireland.
New online platform on climate adaptation services in Germany
01 Oct 2018The new German Climate Preparedness Portal (KLiVO Portal) collects data and information concerning climate change as well as services for a target-oriented adaption to the effects of climate change. Regardless of whether guidelines, tools or advice, all of the climate services aim to support different actors in Germany with their self provision in face of the effects of climate change.
Survey on Climate Services and User Needs launched
18 Sep 2018An online survey -open until 30 November 2018- on “Climate Services – User needs” has been launched, developed under the framework of the ERA4CS research project ECLISEA. Aim is to better understand the climate-information demand from a range of different stakeholders, countries and sectors, including the scientific community, the public decision-making, the private business, the civil society and individuals.
ECCA 2019: Call for abstracts
13 Sep 2018The 4th European Climate Change Adaptation conference (ECCA) will explore how people and businesses are preparing for the challenge of climate change. ECCA 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal, will focus on six themes, from co-production of knowledge to tackling the global challenges of CCA & DRR. Deadline Abstract and Session submission: 10 October 2018.
Europe needs coastal adaptation measures to avoid catastrophic flooding by the end of the century
16 Aug 2018Due to an increase in extreme sea levels driven by global warming, coastal floods in Europe could impact up to 3.65 million people every year in Europe by 2100, compared to around 102.000 today, according to two Joint Research Centre studies.

New training workshop in Austria for climate change adaptation
10 Jul 2018Climate change impacts are most visible at the local level and thus, requiring adaptation actions. For this purpose, 19 people were trained as climate adaptation counselors for Austrian municipalities. The Austrian Environment Agency acted as a moderator and guide and was responsible for the organization of the course.
