Cooperation is key to improve climate change adaptation across Europe’s border regions
10 Dec 2018Europe’s border regions and shared maritime areas are facing increased negative impacts due to climate change, but countries and regions responsible for these areas are already taking action at transnational scale to adapt to these impacts according to a European Environment Agency briefing.
Climate change adaptation of major infrastructure projects
03 Dec 2018DG REGIO commissioned a stock-taking of available resources to assist the development of climate resilient infrastructure covering the transport, urban development, energy, water and waste sectors, following seven study criteria: data availability, guidance, methodologies, tools, design standards, system and legal framework, and institutional capacity. The study’s final report includes a general and a country-specific part with project examples for each Member State.

WHO report published on public health and climate change adaptation policies in the EU
29 Nov 2018The WHO Regional Office for Europe and the European Commission have developed a project to analyse health policies to address adaptation to climate change in EU countries and to compile a selection of good practice case studies. This report includes the findings and a review of past trends and future projections of selected weather- and climate-related hazards, including their health impacts.
European Commission calls for a climate neutral Europe by 2050

The study shows that 25 waterbirds species respond to both year-to-year and long-term changes in winter weather conditions, which is evident by the changes in local abundances during winter.
Restoring floodplains would improve state of water, ecosystems and climate protection in Europe
19 Nov 2018The European Environment Agency briefing ‘Why should we care about floodplains?’ analyses the potential benefits of restoring natural areas next to rivers that are covered by water during floods, including climate change adaptation. According to the analysis, these areas can deliver valuable cultural and ecosystem services, including a cost-effective alternative to structural flood protection.
