20 Apr 2023The project REGILIENCE (Regional Pathways to Climate Resilience) has created a maladaptation self-assessment checklist for experts of regional authorities and consultants who are in charge of planning and implementing regional adaptation actions. The tool identifies potential risks for maladaptation and helps to avoid harm to livelihoods, ecosystems, and the economy.
German €4 billion action plan for natural climate protection will also benefit adaptation to climate change
20 Apr 2023The German Federal Action Plan on Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity will play a substantial role in achieving the German government’s climate and biodiversity goals and in measures to adapt to the impacts of the climate crisis. The action plan is aligned with the Immediate Action Programme for Climate Adaptation and the Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change.

New tool available to evaluate the quality of local adaptation plans
11 Apr 2023Researchers and academics from the Euro-LCP (Local Climate Planning) initiative have launched the Climate Change Adaptation Scoring Tool. Practitioners and researchers can use three adaptation plan quality assessment indices to evaluate the contents of plans based on six commonly-agreed principles of quality.

04 Apr 2023As a contribution to the UN Global Compact Think Lab on Just Transitions, the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) produced a brief on just transition for climate change adaptation. The objective of the brief is to highlight the important role of adaptation action for large multinational corporations that aim to achieve a just transition. The brief outlines seven recommendations for businesses to advance a just transition for climate adaptation.
EU Mission Adaptation signatories now number over 300

It will help these regions and local authorities to better understand, prepare for and manage climate risks, as well as to develop innovative solutions to build a climate-resilient future.
Future plantings of urban trees must consider climate resilience
03 Apr 2023In a new study, researchers conducted a global climate-risk analysis for urban forests, assessing the vulnerability of tree and shrub species in cities. More than half of the trees turn out to be at risk from climate change. Urban greening must use species that can cope with future conditions to secure benefits.
New EU afforestation and tree-planting guidelines promote adaptation
03 Apr 2023The European Commission has recently published the new 'Guidelines on Biodiversity-Friendly Afforestation, Reforestation and Tree Planting' with practical recommendations on how to take climate change into account when creating new forests, restoring existing forests or planting trees in in urban and rural environments. These guidelines support authorities, forest and landowners, managers and civil society to better implement biodiversity-friendly afforestation, reforestation and tree-planting projects at a local level.
