Webinar on Climate-ADAPT case studies

The aim of the fifth webinar of the European Climate Adaptation platform (Climate-ADAPT) is to disseminate the basic features of the Climate-ADAPT case studies: criteria for their identification, structure for their description, development process, and current state of the case study collection. Besides two specific case studies from a developer perspective and a local implementation point of view are going to be presented and the use of the Climate-ADAPT pool of case studies will be promoted, e.g. for: strategic policy process, awareness raising, planning, development of guidelines, design and implementation of similar applications in other locations. Participants will discuss further development of case studies and share potential ways to improve the case study search tool.

Background information

Climate-ADAPT case studies showcase measures that are already being carried out in Europe to increase resilience to extreme weather and slow-onset events, and in particular to improve adaptation to climate change. They are aimed at supporting policy and decision-makers, in particular at the local and regional scale, in their efforts to cope with the effects of climate change by demonstrating the implementation of real adaptation measures.

These case studies have a comprehensive structure that covers all the key aspects in the implementation cycle of adaptation measures and are specifically developed by the European Environment Agency with the support of the ETC-CCA (European Topic Centre on Climate Change Impacts Vulnerability and Adaptation) and the participation of the organisations which are responsible for their implementation.

Currently Climate-ADAPT incudes 91 case studies, which can be accessed through the platform database (according to a combination of different filters) and a dedicated interface for spatial query. This collection is continuously improved with new case studies, aiming to reach as much as possible a balance distribution of represented sectors, climate-related impacts and different geographic locations.
