  • Tackling pollution and climate change in Europe will improve health and well-being

    Air and noise pollution, the impacts of climate change such as heatwaves, and exposure to dangerous chemicals cause ill health in Europe and contribute to 13 % of deaths. An integrated approach to environment and health policies is needed to tackle environmental risks, protect the most vulnerable and fully realise the benefits that nature offers in support of health and well-being, according to the EEA.

  • EEA report 'Monitoring and evaluation of national adaptation policies along the adaptation policy cycle'

    This report provides an overview of country developments in terms of strategies and plans for climate change adaptation and their implementation. The report brings together lessons learned on adaptation monitoring, reporting and evaluation at national and European level. It also looks at future directions and opportunities for mutual learning on the evaluation of national and EU-level adaptation strategies and plans, and the implications of emerging reporting requirements from relevant EU policies to improve evaluations at EU level.

  • Climate change in Germany: monitoring report shows far-reaching consequences

    The second indicator-based monitoring report of the German Federal Government on the German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change informs the public and decision-makers in all areas of social life about the observed consequences of climate change and about the progress on adaptation in all relevant sectors.

  • Summer in the city: green infrastructure to keep urban areas cool

    The last five years have been the hottest on record. Temperature records were broken in cities across Czechia, Spain, Germany, France, and Poland. Meanwhile, public health warnings were issued in Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland due to the intense warmth. The team at LIFE Tree Check project has come up with several solutions that can help cities across central Europe cope when the heat is on.

    The European Green Capital award (for a city of 100,000+ inhabitants; €600,000) and European Green Leaf Award (for a city of 20,000 to 99,999 inhabitants; €200,000) can be applied for to enhance the cities’ environmental sustainability and to contribute to achieving their sustainability vision.

  • A new interactive tool for climate action in the Alps

    The Alpine Climate Board has set up a website to establish an Alpine climate action community and to facilitate its involvement in the implementation of the Alpine Climate Target System 2050 towards climate neutral and climate resilient Alps. The website is built around 30 implementation pathways, i.e. sequences of concrete short- and mid-term measures towards the targets.

  • Round table on climate change adaptation in Croatia

    The Civil Protection Service of Šibenik organized a round table to promote climate change adaptation, to inform operational forces on possible impacts of climate change and to gather ideas on how to improve awareness on climate change adaptation. Representatives of policy makers, academia, fire brigades, police, healthcare, army, nature wardens and civil society attended the meeting.

  • AgriAdapt webtool for adaptation

    Within the AgriAdapt project, supported by the LIFE program of the European Commission, French, Spanish, German and Estonian partners developed an interactive tool to support climate-resilience in the agriculture sector. The tool integrates the experiences of 120 pilot farms working in livestock, arable and permanent crops in four different climatic areas.
