Key messages
- The adaptation options, presented on Climate-ADAPT, can support the preparation of a detailed plan of adaptation action, after current and future climate risks for a region or a policy sector have been identified.
- The third and fourth step of the Adaptation Support Tool help to learn more about the importance of selecting the adaptation options that best any specific case and how national and subnational authorities can identify, compare and prioritise adaptation options.
- The implementation of measures must be coordinated at the proper spatial scale, fit to the specific local context and be compliant with national and subnational regulations and plans. Even though implemented at the local scale, adaptation options often require coordination with higher levels of governance to ensure sustainable and harmonised spatial planning of the whole region.
- The fifth step of the Adaptation Support Tool supports users in organising governance across sectors and levels and mainstreaming adaptation into policies.
- Inspirational case studies where multi-level and cross-sectoral governance has been implemented in practice are also available on Climate-ADAPT.
Why adaptation options matter for climate change adaptation
Adaptation options aim to address the concerns identified in climate change vulnerability and risk assessments to bring negative or adverse impacts of climate change at an acceptable level and to reduce the risks. Adaptation options may also allow taking advantage of any positive opportunities that arise from climate change.
Explore adaptation options
You can also access adaptation options through the Climate-ADAPT resource catalogue. The catalogue enables filtering adaptation options by ‘adaptation sectors’ they address, ‘climate impacts ‘ they cope with, ‘adaptation approaches’ they apply and by ‘countries’ and ‘transnational regions’ where they are located. It shows the same data in a list view with the option to download search results.
