Help shape Europe’s knowledge base on climate resilience
Climate-ADAPT is the European Union’s primary knowledge platform on climate change adaptation and resilience. It provides access to trusted knowledge on climate change impacts, vulnerability, risks, and adaptation across Europe. The platform brings together information from the European Environment Agency (EEA), the European Commission and a wide network of organisations across Europe. This section explains what types of information can be shared through the Climate-ADAPT Resource Catalogue, how to submit content, and where to find guidance and support for information providers.
Why contribute to Climate-ADAPT?
Climate-ADAPT depends on contributions from organisations across Europe to remain the EU’s leading knowledge gateway on climate change adaptation. By contributing your knowledge sources, you help policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and other stakeholders access reliable information that supports climate resilience across Europe.
As a contributor, you also benefit from:
increased visibility of your organisation and knowledge products;
dissemination through the EU’s reference platform for climate change adaptation;
placement of you information within the broader European adaptation policy and knowledge context;
access to a wide European audience.
To ensure Climate-ADAPT remains a trusted and reliable governmental knowledge platform, all proposed content is reviewed against transparent quality criteria before publication.
Submission guidance
Quality criteria
Quality criteria
To be considered for publication, contributions should meet the following criteria:
Relevance
In principle, submitted information should have been published or substantially updated within the last five years.
Content should directly address one or more of the following:
climate change;
climate change impacts;
climate risks and vulnerabilities;
climate change adaptation.
European relevance
Climate-ADAPT focuses on knowledge that is relevant at European level. Climate-ADAPT complements, rather than duplicates, information on national adaptation platforms or specialized EU websites.
Resources may address:
Europe as a whole;
multiple European countries or regions;
European policies and initiatives;
global topics with clear relevance for Europe.
Language
Information should be available through an English webpage or include an English summary.
Where possible, resources should use clear and accessible language. Resources published in other languages than English may be considered when they are of exceptional value for a broad European audience.
Open access
Climate-ADAPT links to original online resources rather than hosting documents.
Resources should therefore:
be publicly accessible online;
include a stable web link;
be free of charge.
Scientific publications should be:
peer-reviewed;
policy relevant;
publicly accessible;
available in English.
Quality
Content should be:
accurate and evidence-based;
concise and easy to understand;
well structured;
relevant for Climate-ADAPT users;
sufficiently descriptive to help users quickly identify its value.
How to contribute
Step 1 – Become a registered information provider
Step 2 – Select the type of information
Step 3 – Quality review
To submit content, you first need a Climate-ADAPT information provider account. Request access via email to climate.adapt@eea.europa.eu and include:
your name;
organisation;
email address;
a short explanation of the type of information you would like to contribute.
Once registered, choose the appropriate submission template for the type of resource you wish to contribute. Each template includes the metadata required for publication and allows you to indicate whether the resource should also be featured in the European Climate Health Observatory, where applicable.
All submissions are reviewed by the Climate-ADAPT editorial team against the platform’s quality criteria before publication. Where needed, contributors may be contacted to clarify or improve submitted information.

This category includes descriptions of measures and actions that can be potentially implemented to improve adaptation to climate change. Climate adaptation options differ from case studies, which are meant to provide a description of measures and actions concretely implemented in a geographically determined location.
The measures and actions part of the Climate-ADAPT catalogue of adaptation options are based on the analysis of relevant project outcomes, other catalogues and most recent literature.
More information on this typology of contents is available on the adaptation option page.
Researchers and governmental organisations are welcome to share information on their experiences in terms of adaptation options. Please contact us via e-mail (climate.adapt@eea.europa.eu) if you wish to contribute to Climate-ADAPT with a new or revised adaptation option. Our experts will contact you with specific information and templates for the adaptation option development and submission.
Climate-ADAPT case studies showcase initiatives undertaken in Europe to adapt to climate change and increase resilience to extreme weather and slow-onset events. Five mandatory criteria have been defined to select Climate-ADAPT case studies:
Clear link to climate change adaptation. the case studies shall describe measures that have been clearly developed as response to climate change challenges, to reduce vulnerability to climate change and/or address its impacts or opportunities, therefore also adopting a long-term perspective.
Actual implementation. Case studies shall describe either implemented/under implementation adaptation measures or initiatives that are preparing or enabling the conditions to implement adaptation (e.g. adjustment in governance such as improvement in processes, institutional settings, policies planning, and legislation), tracking both the process and the effectiveness of adaptation across Europe.
Accessibility to more detailed information. More detailed information on the case studies shall be easily accessible and re-assessment should be feasible.
Geographical scope. The case studies should have the same geographic coverage as Climate-ADAPT.
Avoiding maladaptation. Initiatives that increase vulnerability of some locations and social groups, that strengthen the causes of climate change, and that create conflict with environmental and sustainability policy goals are not taken into account.
The full list of selection criteria for Climate-ADAPT case studies is available here. More information on this typology of contents is available on the case study explorer.
Researchers and governmental organisations are welcome to share information on their experiences in terms of case studies. Please contact us via e-mail (climate.adapt@eea.europa.eu) if you wish to contribute to Climate ADAPT with a new or revised case study. Our experts will contact you with specific information and templates for the case study development and submission.
This category entails information portals that are related to climate adaptation, for example, international, EU, and national adaptation portals, wikis and (interfaces on) databases. In this section of Climate-ADAPT, information portals are included, which can be from EU research projects or from national projects and/or agencies.
Researchers and governmental organisations are expected to provide proposals for this type of content.
These are European (both EU and non-EU) and international organisations and co-operative programs working in the domain of climate change adaptation. Ministries of Environment and other governmental public bodies at national or subnational level are excluded.
Various European and international organisations are expected to provide proposals for this type of content.

This category includes reports, documents, publications, policy documents and acts, e.g. adaptation plans of member states.
In this section of Climate-ADAPT the following documents can be shared:
Reports covering climate change, climate change impacts, vulnerabilities, and adaptation to climate change,
Scientific articles – Peer-reviewed scientific articles should not be included in Climate-ADAPT unless they are very relevant for the target audience of the platform. In this case, they have to be open access.
The national pages contain many links to English or, in some cases, national languages. These country-specific documents do not need to be included in the database.
Recurring items such as project newsletters are not eligible to be included in the database.
Please note that summary information on EU research projects should be included as 'Research and knowledge projects'.
For streamlining reasons, specific outcomes derived from projects (e.g. deliverables, reports, briefings, tools) should preferably be included in the research and knowledge projects resource catalogue item, rather than being submitted as independent resource catalogue items. Please email climate.adapt@eea.europa.eu to suggest edits.
Researchers, governmental and non-governmental organisations are expected to provide proposals for this type of content.
