The programmes aim to enhance the extroversion and internationalisation of the innovation ecosystem, strengthen research excellence, and generate knowledge that serves as a catalyst for innovation-driven development. They also support innovative entrepreneurship to positively impact the national economy, upgrade skills—especially among the younger generation—and develop or modernise research and technological infrastructures.
In addition, the programmes promote collaboration between Cyprus's research and business sectors, fostering knowledge transfer and its commercial exploitation.
By investing in research, innovation, and knowledge exchange, the programme enables local authorities to adopt cutting-edge solutions for climate resilience. These include nature-based solutions, smart water management, and sustainable urban planning. The emphasis on international collaboration and infrastructure development allows municipalities to integrate advanced technologies and best practices for mitigating climate risks. Dedicated funding streams for green and digital transitions empower municipalities to strengthen flood management, implement urban cooling strategies, and conserve biodiversity—ultimately building more sustainable and climate-resilient communities.
