CANARI-Europe facilitates climate-informed agricultural decision-making by providing access to agroclimatic indicators. The tool enables agricultural authorities and advisors to visualise climate projections and assess the impact of climate change on agricultural production systems.

Applications
The CANARI-Europe tool has been actively utilised (about 3,000 times between April 2023 and November 2024) across various European regions to support agricultural stakeholders in adapting to climate change.
Initially launched in France in 2022, the tool has also been applied in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Estonia.

With these systems, CANARI-Europe can provide more comprehensive climate adaptation insights for farmers, policymakers, and insurers.

The tool already includes climate projection data from EURO-CORDEX, and corrected climate projections for past years data.Required user inputs include the definition of thresholds and periods for the variables for the indicator calculations (depending on the region; the tool offers an online user guide, with recommendations for these thresholds and variables, and online it offers some guidance too). All data are open.
Output(s)
CANARI-Europe provides interactive visualizations, summary tables, and downloadable datasets to support agricultural decision-making. Types of Outputs:
- Maps & Visualizations – High-resolution climate projections displayed on a 12.5 km grid (EURO-CORDEX resolution), allowing users to visualize agroclimatic indicators across different regions.
- Box Plot Graphs – Represent the variability of indicators across six climate models, showing trends over time (Past, Near Future 2020-2050, and Far Future 2050-2100).
- Trend Charts – Time-series graphs display climate indicator evolution (e.g., temperature rise, drought frequency).
- Summary Tables – Statistical outputs for different climate models, showing minimum, maximum, and average values of selected agroclimatic indicators.
- Customisable Reports – Users can modify periods and thresholds for indicator calculations, generating tailored climate impact assessments.
- Data Exports – Users can download outputs in CSV (numerical data) or PNG (graphical results) for further analysis.
Replicability: Cost/effort for (new) usage
The tool is open access. Implementation in new regions could require some cost of IT development, e.g., if a new language is needed. Including new agroclimatic indicators could be requested by contacting the tool owner.

Developed under the CANARI project in collaboration with Solagro, Makina Corpus, and the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL). The general idea came from LIFE AgriAdapt Project, coordinated by Lake Constanz Foundation and with Fundacion Global Nature and Solagro as partners.
CANARI-Europe supports risk assessment, adaptation planning, and climate scenario analysis in the agricultural sector.
