Information from Governance Regulation reporting on adaptation (2023, 2021)

The health sector is covered in the Malta's Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS, 2021); the NAS is part of the LCDS. The Ministry for Health is one of those responsible for the implementation of climate specific actions on adaptation.

Population and human health are amongst the parameters which are linked to climate change (both directly and indirectly) included in the environmental impact assessment looking at direct, indirect and cumulative effects.

One of the sectors treated by the Adaptation Chapter of Malta’s LCDS is that of ‘Health and Civil Protection’. This includes a number of measures targeting these thematic areas, including surveillance, education and contingency plans.

Health issues, Civil Protection and Immigration were amongst the sectors identified as being of priority for the Maltese Islands in terms of Climate adaptation action in the 2019 vulnerability assessment.
