The main tasks of the Farmland and Forest Fund are to deal with land purchase (farmland), denationalisation procedures, and administrative and legal procedures regarding land use contracts. The Fund also finances upkeep, renovation, and the construction of new irrigation and drainage systems owned by the state or local authorities. The Fund is involved in climate adaptation by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, providing training and resources for farmers on climate resilience, and supporting the development of climate-adaptive agriculture. This includes initiatives like precision farming, water management improvements, and the selection of crop varieties better suited to changing climatic conditions.
