Learn from the successes and failures identified through your monitoring and evaluation. Use these insights to improve your adaptation policies. Share findings internally and externally to enhance collective understanding and action.
Learning is at the core of a comprehensive MEL system. A robust learning strategy enables continuous learning and improvement. A well-defined learning strategy will help you manage climate risks effectively by fostering adaptability, extracting insights from the process and sharing lessons learned to support decision-making.
Learning should take place throughout the implementation of climate adaptation plans, with a focus on refining strategies and making course corrections to achieve your desired outcomes. This process relies on making use of new information and scientific evidence obtained through monitoring and evaluation. It’s important to foster a collaborative learning approach by actively involving stakeholders in feedback loops (e.g. through public consultations). This facilitates learning and ensures that climate action aligns with your intended objectives.
Proactively engaging stakeholders also helps promote cross-level learning – among regions, localities and communities – enhancing collective understanding of climate risks and adaptation efforts. When updating local or regional adaptation policies, you should prioritise insights gained through these learning processes. It’s important to learn from successes and failures to make sure actions are timely, well-targeted and cost-effective.
