The European Commission has published a call for applications with a view to selecting members for a technical expert group on sustainable finance. The group will assist the Commission in the development of
an EU taxonomy of climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation. The call is open until 16 April 2018.

COACCH project: Innovative ways to assess climate change risks and costs

The EU-funded COACCH project (CO-designing the Assessment of Climate CHange costs) aims to advance knowledge regarding climate change impacts and policy that can be used directly by stakeholder communities. The project is taking a specific approach to ensure producing knowledge which can be communicated, disseminated and applied in a timely manner.

Dashboard on insurance protection gap for natural catastrophes

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has launched its first pilot dashboard, which depicts the insurance protection gap for natural catastrophes. The aim is to represent the drivers of a climate-related insurance protection gap in order to identify measures that will help in decreasing society’s losses in the event of natural catastrophes. EIOPA is also inviting stakeholders to provide their views by 31 March 2021 by filling in a survey.

EU economic governance should support, rather than undermine the goals of the European Union, according to the Climate Action Network Europe (CAN) that has published a policy briefing recently. The fiscal consequences of not making the precautionary investments and reforms needed to mitigate and adapt to climate change are mentioned. CAN Europe is a non-profit organisation receiving funding from the European Commission, governments, foundations as well as contributions and membership fees from its member organisations.
