Climate observations are of fundamental importance for reconstructing, monitoring, understanding, and adapting to climate change. They are instrumental for assessments and policy implementations. The need for systematic climate observations is increasing with the growing urgency for adaptation and mitigation measures that can require high resolution information. The conference, organised by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), will focus on activities and solutions that help to achieve a fully implemented, sustainable, and fit for purpose global observing system for climate.

The Climate landscapes online conference "The effect of landscape design on climate resilience and the meso-climate" will be held on 18 and 19 October, 2022. The conference aims to show science, practice, politics, media experts and companies the enormous potentials of ecosystem-oriented crop production and appropriately designed water management on the water balance of land, used for agriculture and forestry. At the same time, the associated positive effects with regard to biodiversity, healthy soils and improved climate adaptation are to be considered. Appropriate and feasible solutions that increase the resilience of agriculture, forestry and water management will be presented and discussed.

The online expert discussion on “Adaptation to climate change and the role of research and innovation: How to strengthen climate resilience in Israel and the European Union” will be held on 20 October 2022 at 10:00 (CEST) / 11:00 (IDT). It is a joint initiative of the German Embassy in Israel, the State of Bavaria’s Office in Israel and the Scientific Coordination Office Bavaria-Israel of the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR). This online event will discuss adaptation to climate change as mentioned in the new European Union (EU) research framework programme Horizon Europe. Furthermore, it covers funding opportunities to support research projects which help strengthen climate resilience with innovative solutions.

The European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) dialogues aim to facilitate experience sharing among stakeholders, including local governments and developing adapted policy guidance addressing climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction-related issues. The first action-oriented dialogue “Inclusive and collaborative systems for heat and wildfire risks governance” is hosted by the Government of Greece and will take place on 21 October 2022 in in Athens, Greece. The second action-oriented dialogue “Investing in Disaster Risk Reduction in the South Eastern Europe” is hosted by the Government of Croatia and will be held in Dubrovnik 25-27 October 2022. The events will be available online.
