Policy paper released on nature-based solutions and global climate protection
07 Jan 2022The German Environment Agency released a policy brief with findings from a study examining the role of NbS for global climate protection and in international climate policy considering their relevance for adaptation. It provides a critical assessment of global mitigation potentials of NbS in forests, grasslands, and terrestrial and coastal wetland, and provides recommendations for international climate policy. The results show that the potential of NbS to mitigate emissions is probably overestimated in the scientific literature due to various factors.
Final report from the Stepping Up Knowledge Exchange between Climate Adaptation Platforms (KE4CAP) project available
31 Dec 2021Web-based climate adaptation knowledge platforms play a vital role in providing access to high-quality information essential to support adaptation action. By facilitating a series of knowledge-exchange activities between 30 platforms around the world, the KE4CAP project, which was funded by the European Commission, has created an active community of practice with members sharing insights, and ideas to help deliver the best possible support for platform users. This final report provides a synthesis of all project activities and outputs and is aimed at informing developers and operators of adaptation knowledge platforms.

Adapting to climate change and extreme weather events requires decision-support tools to validate measures dealing with risks. The new CRISI-ADAPT II tool offers decision-makers this kind of support. The CRISI-ADAPT II project aims to monitor and improve the planning of adaptation measures through real-time validation based on a site-based and seasonal forecast of climate risks.

European Environment Agency report released: 'Climate hazards are increasing in frequency and severity across Europe'
17 Nov 2021As extreme weather events and other climate hazards are increasing in frequency and severity across Europe, solid information is needed for assessing climate risks and planning for adaptation. The European Environment Agency’s (EEA) new interactive report gives an overview of past and projected changes in Europe’s most important climate hazards and how they impact European regions. It is especially valuable for policymakers and experts concerned with climate risk assessment and adaptation planning. The report relies strongly on the European Climate Data Explorer (published on Climate-ADAPT), which was developed jointly with the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
The European Investment Bank and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts agree to leverage Copernicus for smart climate adaptation
09 Nov 2021The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding setting out a framework for cooperation on the enhanced use of Copernicus Earth observation data. As part of the Climate Bank Roadmap 2021-2025, the EIB committed to substantially increase climate adaptation efforts and ensure that all the operations it supports, are adapted to current weather variability and future climate change impacts. The new cooperation agreement with ECMWF will support it in achieving these objectives.
The LIFE SHARA project finishes: Fostering awareness and governance for adaptation to climate change
04 Nov 2021The EU funded LIFE SHARA project (Sharing awareness and governance of adaptation to climate change), has strengthened the network of collaboration between Spain and Portugal in climate change adaptation. In addition, the generation and transfer of knowledge has been boosted through the creation of a technical platform for adaptation to climate change “AdapteCCA”.
Greece’ s climate projections online available
04 Nov 2021The EU funded LIFE-IP AdaptInGR project has produced new climate projections for Greece to further boost mainstreaming of adaptation across policies and projects. High resolution GIS maps for 22 climate indices have been produced for three greenhouse gas emissions scenarios and for two future periods (2031-2060, 2071-2100). The maps are accessible through the GIS Mapsportal of the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy.
