  • Extreme heat, widespread drought typify European climate in 2022

    Last year, Europe experienced its hottest summer and second warmest year on record, according to the 2022 edition of the Copernicus Climate Change Service’s (C3S) European State of the Climate (ESOTC) report. Globally, the last eight years have been the warmest on record, while in recent decades Europe has warmed faster overall than other continents.

    The EU funded project REGILIENCE is providing a series of training sessions clustered in two cycles for European regions and communities within so-called Open Training Sessions (OTS). The OST objective is to inform interested European regions and regional actors about available support and technical solutions for adaptation.

    The European Climate Data Explorer, offering access to climate indices provided by the Copernicus Climate Change Service, is now presenting reanalysis indices for historical and present time, harmonised calculation of indicators, new water-related indicators, and offers more interactive and user-friendly visualisation options.

  • EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change Portal launched

    The new launched EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change Portal provides access to knowledge, data and resources to support climate resilience planning, as well as information on projects and news specific to the Mission on Adaptation on Climate Change. Through the Portal, regional and local authorities can access support in planning and preparing for climate resilience. As part of Climate-ADAPT, this portal is developed by the European Commission, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the Mission on Implementation platform (MIP4Adapt) consortium.

    The European Commission has launched the LIFE Programme’s 2023 Calls for project proposals. This year, there is 611 million Euro available for nature conservation, environmental protection, climate action, and clean energy transition projects, of which 66.35 million Euro is available for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

    The project REGILIENCE (Regional Pathways to Climate Resilience) developed a funding tool to raise awareness of available funding opportunities on European and national level dedicated to support regional climate resilience. This tool can filter on your location, sector (including agriculture, energy, transport, water), project size and eligibility criteria.

  • Assess the maladaptation potential of your adaptation actions in 17 questions

    The project REGILIENCE (Regional Pathways to Climate Resilience) has created a maladaptation self-assessment checklist for experts of regional authorities and consultants who are in charge of planning and implementing regional adaptation actions. The tool identifies potential risks for maladaptation and helps to avoid harm to livelihoods, ecosystems, and the economy.

    The German Federal Action Plan on Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity will play a substantial role in achieving the German government’s climate and biodiversity goals and in measures to adapt to the impacts of the climate crisis. The action plan is aligned with the Immediate Action Programme for Climate Adaptation and the Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change.

  • The Liguria Region (IT) climate change adaptation strategy

    The Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (RSACC) contains climate scenarios for the Liguria region; a qualitative assessment of key climate risks for the regional sectors, and context specific adaptation objectives and measures. With scientific support and with the expertise of representatives from different sectors, the most appropriate measures for the territory have been identified.
