EcoShape develops and shares knowledge about Building with Nature: a new approach to hydraulic engineering that harnesses the forces of nature to benefit environment, economy and society. Building with Nature is a design approach to develop Nature-based Solutions for water-related infrastructure such as flood defences, sustainable port development and for the restoration of ecosystems. It harnesses the forces of nature to benefit economy, society and the environment.

EcoShape is a foundation under Dutch law that manages the public private innovation programme Building with Nature. Knowledge is developed via pilot projects, in which Building with Nature (Nature Based Solutions) are realised and monitored. Based on the monitoring results, guidelines for replication and scaling up are developed and disseminated through the website of EcoShape.

To carry out projects and related applied knowledge development, EcoShape has concluded a consortium agreement with 15 parties (engineering consultants, knowledge institutes, contractors and NGO’s). Furthermore, EcoShape regularly collaborates with parties outside the signatories to the consortium agreement, e.g. with public parties and universities.

Ecoshape’s website offers references and online resources about the building with nature approach, case study examples and available tools that can assist users during different project stages.
