  • INFORM Risk in IMF’s new climate change indicators dashboard

    The IMF’s new Climate Change Indicators Dashboard (CID) was launched on 7th April 2021. Climate-related INFORM Risk was used for physical risk indicators. The Dashboard is an international statistical initiative to address the growing need for data in macroeconomic and financial policy analysis to facilitate climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Dashboard is a single platform that brings together experimental climate change indicators that allows comparison across countries.

  • Danish Coastal Authority launches new planning tool aimed at coastal municipalities

    Based on new national risk mapping, the Danish Coastal Authority has made new analyses and strategies available for use in coastal protection planning efforts. "Kystplanlægger" is a coastal planning tool targeted at coastal municipalities. The entire Danish coastline has been risk-mapped up to 2120 with respect to better manage the risks of flooding and erosion.

  • New standard helps adapting to climate change: EN ISO 14091:2021

    The recently adopted and published European Standard: ‘Adaptation to climate change - Guidelines on vulnerability, impacts and risk assessment’ (EN ISO 14091:2021) offers organisations a consistent, structured and pragmatic approach to understand their vulnerabilities and to prevent or mitigate negative consequences caused by climate change, while taking advantage of opportunities. It was developed in parallel to the respective standard of the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) (ISO 14091, 2021-02) which was set up based on an initiative of Germany and South Korea.

  • Call for applications for Mediterranean Climate Change Adaptation Awards

    The third edition of this competition was launched in the frame of the 5th Anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement. It is aimed at public stakeholders, members of the private sector and NGOs which are taking action and developing solutions to adapt the Mediterranean regions to the changing climate. Applications closing date: 15 April 2021.

  • Safe and resilient forests: Commission works for wildfire prevention in Europe and globally

    The European Commission has published new guidelines to facilitate a better understanding of land-based wildfire prevention and effective responses. They point towards prevention measures that can be taken through governance, planning and forest management, and outline how EU Member States can access EU funding for wildfire resilience and work together at EU level.

  • Climate change threatens European forests

    Well over half of Europe's forests are potentially at risk from windthrow, forest fire and insect attacks, according to a study by an international team of scientists from Italy, Spain, Finland and Germany. Important ecosystem services could be impaired by the loss of especially large and old trees.

  • EU Study on adaptation modelling for policy-support at multiple governance levels

    The Publications Office of the European Union has published several reports of the European Commission's study on climate adaptation modelling, accompanying the launch of the EU Strategy on adaptation to climate change. It addresses the European Commissions' requirements to support decision making on climate adaptation at multiple governance levels. The study provides a comprehensive overview of technical and economic models and tools for hazards, risks, impacts, vulnerability and adaptation climate assessments and of research gaps.

    The European Commission set out the pathway to prepare for the unavoidable impacts of climate change. Building on the 2013 Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, the new proposal is to shift the focus from understanding the problem to developing solutions, and to move from planning to implementation.
