Both the German Adaptation Strategy (Deutsche Anpassungsstrategie, DAS) and the DAS Progress Report formulate the promotion of private precautions as one of the aims of the participation processes for the further development and implementation of DAS by the German Federal Government. Specifically, DAS formulates the aim "mobilise individual initiative" and, the Progress Report, the "promotion of the initiative and voluntary commitment of stakeholders"

The theme of the conference was inspiring climate adaptation action today for a resilient future. How far are municipalities with the Adaptation to Climate Change? To what extent does the German Climate Adaptation Strategy (DAS) support climate change adaptation in the cities and towns? The present study provides answers to these and other questions that were collected through a nationwide online survey. The results were deepened on the basis of a focus group discussion and supplementary expert interviews and prepared in recommendations from the municipalities for the further development of the DAS
