COP28, in collaboration with WHO and other partners, will organize the first ever Health Day on 3 December, including a climate-health ministerial. The COP is expected to lift the political profile of the climate-health topic, and mainstream health in the climate change agenda and -vice versa- climate change in health policies. WHO and Wellcome Trust host the COP28 Health Pavilion, bringing together a wide variety of climate-health stakeholders and actors. Several events on the climate-health nexus are organized in Dubai and streamed online.

In Dubai, world leaders agreed on a decision text of the COP28 climate summit. The text calls for "transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems", but no phase-out. While it is the first time that a text in a climate agreement mentions moving away from fossil fuels, the root cause for climatic change and its impact on human health and well-being, the text lacks explicit commitments related to mitigation, adaptation and finance for these actions.

The European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) will dedicate its second annual conference to exploring the current state of health preparedness, with a focus on cross-border health threats. This will be an opportunity to take stock of the progress made, and discuss possible avenues for improved collective preparedness for health treats, including those emerging from climatic changes. The last of four thematic sessions of the one-day conference focusses on enhancing Europe’s preparedness to respond to climate-related health risks.
